Self-Care for Witches: How to Care for Yourself with Magick

Self Care for Witches: How to Care for Yourself with Magick, Green Witch Living

We all know it’s important to take care of ourselves when we are physically and emotionally tired. The term “self-care” gets thrown around a lot, but what does it really mean? Let’s talk about self-care for witches and some simple ways you can make it witchy and add a bit of magick into your self-care rituals!

What is Self-Care?

Though spa days and pampering sessions come to mind for many of us when we think of self-care, it is much more than this. If pampering yourself helps you reduce stress so you can better take care of yourself, it is self-care! But self-care for witches can also be taking care of necessary things in order for you to live a happier and healthier life. Witchcraft helps us take care of our spiritual health, and I included a few ways to take care of your mind and body.

Take a Ritual Bath

Water is a type of spiritual cleansing that can metaphorically wash away the things you no longer need. Set an intention before you draw the bath and choose herbs, crystals, and colored candles that match your intention. Make sure to research which crystals are water-safe first.

For this ritual, you will need:

If you are using oils or herbs, combine them in a bowl with your Epsom Salts. You will want enough salt for your whole body. If you don’t like herbs floating around you can use a teabag to contain them.

After you run the bath or turn on the shower, get in and begin to rub the salts in downward motions on your body. Imagine whatever it is you need to release sloughing off your body.

Stand under the shower or submerge yourself in the water, allowing it to wash the salt off, along with the things that no longer serve you. Notice it swirling down the drain, leaving you. And so it is.

Get Witchin’ in the Kitchen

Infuse kitchen witchcraft into your food, caring for yourself by cooking nourishing meals. Eating healthy food is self-care for witches, too! Similar to the ritual bath, set your intention and choose the herbs that match. If some go with the recipe you are making, use those! Charge the herbs with your intention before adding them. When you eat it, the intentions are being manifested!

Need to get grounded? Certain foods help with that, too. Cook yourself a heavier meal with complex carbs and red meat (think steak and potatoes!) or make yourself a luxurious dark chocolate dessert!

 Go With The (Yoga) Flow

Along the same vein as cooking, sometimes self-care for witches is making yourself do something you don’t want to do that you know is good for you. Even if your energy is low, moving your body can make you feel so much better! I chose yoga specifically because it is a moving meditation, but you can move your body in any way that feels good to you.

Not into yoga? Taking a nature walk is another one of my favorite ways to calm my mind and take care of myself in the process. Get out in nature and take some deep breaths, breathing in the fresh, clean air. Gardening is another great way to connect with the earth while incorporating movement.

Just Meditate

Contrary to popular belief, meditation is not about clearing your mind but allowing your thoughts to pass like clouds in the sky. Not judging them, but observing them, accepting them, and letting them go on their way. This is a discipline that you will see the benefits with regular practice and can help you become more centered and calm in your everyday life, just letting things be.

For beginners or those of us whose minds run a million miles per minute, it can be helpful to pick a mantra to focus on, so instead of the thoughts distracting you, the mantra gives you something to direct back to when you lose focus. Don’t like repeating a mantra? Other options could be the music you are playing, the crystal in your hands, the topic you are needing clarity on. Anything that helps you stay present in the moment.

Synchronize Your Cycle

Though it may not be possible for everyone, syncing up with the cycle of the moon is a great way to care for yourself if it is available to you. The different phases of the moon carry different energy, the full moon being busy and productive and the new moon being resting and planning, for example. Prioritizing your schedule to work within these energies can help you feel balanced and be more productive.

Self-care is not selfish! The saying goes that you cannot pour out of an empty cup. Taking the time to care for yourself enables you to have more to give to others. Even nature goes inward for a season in order to create life.
