Crystals are not only beautiful, they also each have their own special vibrational energy. There are crystals who’s vibration can assist us with just about anything you could think of. From using citrine to help draw in abundance, howlite to help ease anxious feelings, or even black obsidian to drive negativity away, crystals are becoming increasingly popular as more and more people discover what they have to offer.
But this is Tarot 101, why are we talking about crystals? Just like there are crystals to help you relax into sleep at night, there are so many to choose from to help open your third eye and strengthen your intuition. They can assist you in getting more accurate tarot readings, protecting your energy, as well as calm any nerves you may have when you first get started as a new reader.
Top 5 Crystals for Tarot Readings
Selenite
Selenite is an absolutely gorgeous crystal, and one I never go without. My favorite piece is probably my selenite scrying sphere. Selenite is also a great crystal to use as a charging plate, because it has a beautiful ability to charge other crystals it’s touching.
Selenite is associated with the energy of the moon, and is great for cleansing the area around it, which makes it an amazing crystal to have around during tarot readings. Having an energetically clear space around you is a must when using tarot to access your intuition. It is also wonderful for opening your crown chakra, the chakra located on top of your head, making it easier to connect with your higher self and spirit guides.
Amethyst
Amethyst tends to be a very popular crystal, and one most people know about even if crystals aren’t something they’re into. Its calming energy and gorgeous purple color make it a great crystal for tarot readings.
While Amethyst can help with crown chakra work just like selenite, where it really shines the most is helping to open the third eye. Your third eye chakra, located just in between your eyes on the lower portion of your forehead, is the chakra most connected to your inner vision (aka clairvoyance) and psychic abilities. Opening your third eye can greatly improve your confidence in your intuitive abilities, making your tarot readings much more clear and accurate. The calming energy of amethyst is also great for setting the mood for a tarot reading.
Lapis Lazuli
Lapis Lazuli is another favorite of mine for any type of intuitive reading. This is another one that is great for your third eye chakra, but it also works for your throat chakra. Your throat chakra is located in the middle of your neck. Having an open third eye and throat chakra during readings will help improve your intuition, as well as your communication and clear thoughts. Its energy is helpful to give you the ability to speak more clearly and express what you are getting from the reading in a more concise way.
Labradorite
Labradorite is one of my personal favorites. It is a stone of transformation, inner strength, confidence, and wonderful for meditation and getting in touch with your intuitive abilities. It also has the added bonus of raising your vibration while also grounding and protecting your aura. Protection is important when doing any sort of intuitive work, especially when reading for people other than yourself. When connecting with someone’s energy other than your own during a reading, you don’t want any low vibrations or pain they’re feeling to become attached to you in the process. This is especially true if you identify as an empath and tend to take on the emotions and pain of those around you.
Set the intention to stay protected and grounded during a reading using labradorite, or my next crystal on the list. This is a great way to keep your energy field and vibration high so you can continue to receive intuitive insights in the cards without feeling depleted afterwards.
Black Tourmaline
Black Tourmaline is also a wonderful stone for protection and grounding. It is associated with your root chakra, which is located at the base of your spine, but also helps your other lower chakras remain balanced as well. While selenite is great for clearing negative energy and opening your higher chakras, I like to think of black tourmaline as its opposite. It even has a similar look to selenite, except it is black instead of white.
Black Tourmaline is a powerful protection stone, opening your lower chakras, absorbing and transforming any negativity that comes your way, and keeping you grounded and safe in the process. I love using black tourmaline, selenite, and a third eye chakra crystal together to offer protection, grounding, access to your higher self and guides, and third eye activation all together.
Other Crystals to Consider
I had to add an honorable mentions category at the end, because there are so many beautiful crystals out there that are helpful when reading tarot. While the ones mentioned above are my personal favorites for beginners, take a look at these as well when choosing your first crystal for tarot reading. These are also helpful if you’re not new to working with crystals or tarot, and you’re looking for something new to try. Go with your gut when deciding which crystals you are the most attracted to, because your intuition won’t steer you wrong.
Aquamarine- Gorgeous blue crystal that is great for your throat chakra and communication.
Lepidolite – Beautiful crystal that is commonly found in purple, but available in other colors as well. It is great for your heart, throat, third eye, and crown chakras. Also powerful for intuition and making connections with spirit guides, as well as connecting with clients for distance readings.
Moonstone – Beautiful flashy stone that comes in multiple colors. Different colors work with different chakras, but all are wonderful for tarot readings and enhancing intuition.
Clear Quartz – Common but gorgeous crystal that aligns all chakras. Also works as an enhancer of other crystals energies and psychic abilities.
Iodite – Beautiful crystal for the crown, third eye, and throat chakras. Wonderful to use for all intuitive and psychic work.
Peitersite – This crystal just looks absolutely magical, and is great for your third eye, throat, and solar plexus chakras. It also enhances clairvoyance (seeing visions) and confidence during a reading.
How to Start Working with your New Crystals
Once you have your crystals picked out, it’s also a good idea to cleanse, charge, and program your crystals with the intention you’re wanting to use them for. Whether that be to enhance your intuition throughout your day, to help specifically with tarot readings, or to strengthen a specific psychic ability, the intention you choose is up to you. Just be sure you are clear with your intent, and make sure to decide what each crystals purpose will be before you start programming.
